Intellectual Property Rights Cell (IPR) of Sikkim Government College Namchi in association with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized an informative awareness program on titled “IPR Awareness Programme” under the aegis of Sikkim State Council of Science and Technology, Government of Sikkim on 22.08.2025.
The program was attended by Vice Principal of College- Dr. Dewan Rai, Dean of the Students’ Affairs- Dr Yugal Kishore Khanal, 200 college students, members of IPR Cell and many faculty members of the college.
The Program started with the welcome speech by Dr Sanjaya Kumar Subba, convenor IPR Cell of SGC Namchi, followed by a comprehensive keynote address delivered by the invited resource person Shri Rajdeep Gurung, Assistant Scientific officer, IPR Biotechnology Division, Department of Science and Technology, Government of Sikkim. Shri Gurung highlighted the significant of Intellectual Property as the foundation of creativity and innovation. He presented the types of IPRs including patents, trademarks, copyrights, industrial designs, and geographical indications and gave understanding on different aspects of registering them. He also gave brief information about filing a patent and the different process involved in it till the award of the patent.
The session ended with a vote of thanks given by Mr Chuzing Lepcha, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany.
